Apparently I forgot to let this blog know that I’m cheating on it.. I’ve made a new travel-blog or sorts for my trip to Europe - check it out at europe.maxelman.com! I’ve been updating it daily (hourly, even), and I think it’s pretty exciting. You have to love technology - the iPhone in particular made this all happen.

Maybe it’s just me, but I really do hate the clutter of adding wallpapers to an iPhone the traditional way - you have to add photos to iPhoto, make a new album, have things be a mess… Anyone else? No? Just me? Well, fine then.

On the off chance that someone else agrees - that it would be all together simpler to add wallpapers to apple’s “wallpapers” screen, and at the same time removing wallpapers never to be used (The Mona Lisa, anyone?), I thought it might be useful to write my experiences, as I couldn’t find it anywhere else.

Of course, you’ll need an unlocked/jailbroken iPhone for this (I’ve used and recommend ZiPhone) and then you’ll need to turn ssh. SFTP into the phone as root (the IP is under wi-fi settings, the password “alpine”) using Fugu/Transmit/etc and go to: /Library/Wallpaper/

From here, feel free to delete any unwanted wallpapers (and their accompanying thumbnail), as well as add more, keeping the 100, 101, 102… 119 number structure intact. Looks like you can add however many you want. And they’re all in one place!

After typing this all out, I now realize how geeky and anal this really is… Oh well

well, I tried. I really tried to like the iphone, and make it work. but alas, it just isn’t a smartphone. compared to my HTC hermes, it’s a very shiny cell phone, that does a few things very well. what can’t it do that I need?

• handle gmail very well, as I just use the webmail
• voice dialing, which is amazing for the car
• a to-do list. I mean, seriously?
• sync with google calendar without paying spanning sync (goosync)
• download ringtones over the air
• control my mac via bluetooth (salling clicker)
• and so much more

sadness. I really hoped that it would work out better than that. damn.

what a good day for apple, and therefore me.

new phone that looks amazing, new router that’s snazzy, and a new TV thing that looks alright. people must be happy though, as stock has gone up seven dollars and the keynote isn’t even over.

and here I am, happy that I bought some stock two days ago. go me.
