While I might be a tad late on this, it appears the crazy success of The Dark Knight brought some Michael Caine attention to the media. And thus, I realized I missed his 75th birthday. Shame. After having a pretty rad birthday in Boulder, CO with my family (slaying dragons, raiding bookstores, afternoon tea…), there was of course need to have a gathering back at home. Phones were dialed, people were gathered, and there was a great sushi dinner at Masako. Sushi boats, free champagne (ish), and all the lights of the fine establishment going low when birthday songs were sung. Can’t beat that.
Or maybe you can? After fun at home, there was an inspired idea to use a sparkler as a birthday candle. It was, as if words could even describe it, AMAZING. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.
The moral of this story? Good friends, good sushi, good cake… All even better when put together.
