exploded art projects

November 29, 2006

for my electronic intermedia class, i’m making a fairly unique bottled floor lamp of sorts, and the plan was to make it sound activated. it actually even worked earlier today, we were stomping around, messing with different musical instruments, and being provided with a strange light show courtesy of my lamp. then of course, things went sour. some wires that don’t get along brushed by each other on a crowded streetcorner and, as always when that happens, a freaking big capacitor decided to end its life. lame. so yes, the picture below is of the aftermath. I spent this evening trying to mend things, but the whole thing just refuses to work. thus, no dance-party noise-making light show. regardless, open studios are on friday. you should all come.

update:

although the sound activation never worked, the lamp was completed and now stands in the corner of my room. here’s a picture.

more silly assignments

November 27, 2006

fruitcakefor film 170a, the final assignment was a database-driven website of any sort. now, just turning in this blog probably would have worked, but creating something new, something innovative, something amazing seemed like a better idea. so I bring you this - a holiday recipe guide. don’t get too excited, but please do add your own if you get the chance.

as far as other things in life, there will be some pictures soon of a floor lamp created for my electronic intermedia class. and finals are next week. woot.
oh yeah, and start using google reader. it’s awesome. and it supplies the rad new links in the sidebar over yonder.

no power = crazy time

November 17, 2006

porter outageSo, for some reason or another, power was out on the campus grid last night. I was up at KZSC, just having finished my show, and the lights went out. ‘This is bad’, was the thought of all of us there - as it’s hard to broadcast radio without power. There was some emergency power, but routed in strange ways, and soon the next show was good to go. Topher and I decided to explore campus, so obviously we headed to porter. Tons of people there, dancing, raving, drumming, etc, and good times were had by all(most).
